Robert had a 35-year career in the Canadian Foreign Service and was Ambassador to Algeria and later Ambassador to Greece with concurrent accreditation as High Commissioner to Cyprus. Earlier he served in Lagos, Nigeria, Berne, Switzerland, and Athens for the first time.
At the Foreign Ministry in Ottawa he held a number of senior positions which included Departmental Spokesman and Press Secretary to the Foreign Minister, Director of the Media Relations Office and Chief of Protocol of Canada.
Since retiring from the Canadian Foreign Service in 2017, Bob is a Non-Executive board member of London-based energy company, Energean PLC, and an advisor to American start-up boutique lighting company IDEOLI.
In the not for profit sector Bob is an active member of two business groups: the Canada- Arab Business Council and the Canada-Algeria Business Council.
He also sits on the boards of the Canadian Institute in Greece, The Canadian Institute of Mediterranean Studies, The Hellenic Initiative
Canada, The Michaëlle Jean Foundation and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra.
